Since the early 2000s, Swedish melodic death metal band IN MOURNING have steadily built a devoted international fanbase. With six acclaimed studio albums and several EPs under their belt, the Dalecarlian quartet return with their seventh full-length release, The Immortal - arriving two years after their previous album, The Bleeding Veil. Staying true to their signature blend of melancholic melodies and crushing heaviness, The Immortal sees the band further refine and expand their sonic identity.
Fronted by the dynamic vocal duo of Björn Pettersson and Tobias Netzell - whose deep growls and soaring clean vocals offer striking contrast - the album explores themes of personal struggle and philosophical reflection. Guitarist Tim Nedergård provides intricate lead work, while drummer Cornelius Althammer lays down powerful, precise rhythms. With raw emotion and reflection, the new album delves into the delicate balance between acceptance and moving on from grief, capturing the parallel between life and death through the changing seasons and the eternal flow of nature. The Immortal offers a powerful meditation on the passage of time, resilience, and the quiet strength found in embracing both life and death.
Recorded, mixed and mastered at Fascination Street Studios, Örebro in late 2024 and early 2025, The Immortal is dressed up in the finest of sonic clothings, yet with raw nerve and honest presence. According to Tobias Netzell, "this album has the best sounding balance between organic and modern metal I've ever heard. From the very start of the writing process I had this vision of making the album sound incredible, massive and huge. Kind of a darker tone than previous releases, and like a cold wind blowing throughout the whole record with a slight touch of black metal." Released on August 29th, 2025, in cooperation with Dalapop and Supreme Chaos Records, IN MOURNING once again craft an emotionally intense and thought-provoking album, marking a new and bolder chapter in their storied career.
