Background information about 'The Way Forward'
There's a moment about forty seconds into "Out Of Grasp" where Black Tusk stop being polite and just let the whole thing rip, and from there "The Way Forward" never really lets you catch your breath. This is Savannah sludge at its most restless — thick, tar-pit riffs that suddenly break into galloping punk tempos, three voices trading off like a bar fight that keeps changing sides. The trio have always been the rowdiest of that Georgia swamp school, and here they sound genuinely reinvigorated, writing hooks that stick while still coating everything in grime.
What makes this record land is the swing. "Harness (The Alchemist)" lurches and grooves like something off a stoner classic, then "Dance On Your Grave" comes stomping in with a chorus built for a sweaty basement. "Ocean Of Obsidian" slows to a crawl and lets the doom breathe, while the closing title track stretches out and actually earns its running time — patient, heavy, and weirdly triumphant. It's loud, it's ugly in the best way, and it's the sound of a band who know exactly what they are.
