There's something almost ritualistic about what Luke Tromiczak has conjured on Aion's Light — the third full-length from Blood and Sun and by far his most unguarded, instinct-driven work to date. Recorded entirely on the same battered Tascam 414 four-track cassette portastudio that birthed the project's earliest demos, this is an album that wears its limitations like sacred vestments. No endless retakes, no digital safety nets — just songs tracked in sequence, effects committed straight to tape, every bounced instrument narrowing the path forward until the only way out was through.

And what a path it is. Tromiczak hammers guitar chords into place like he's building a shelter against the coming dark, then layers bass, keyboards, percussion and that unmistakable voice — part bard, part penitent — into arrangements that gather immense weight through sheer repetition and atmosphere. The grain of the cassette recording isn't a flaw here; it's the texture that makes these nine songs feel like they were unearthed rather than composed. Aion's Light occupies a strange and beautiful borderland where 70s folk songcraft meets the spiritual hunger of underground black metal and the eerie, shadow-draped mood of B-movie horror soundtracks. You can feel the ghosts of Scott Walker, Of the Wand and the Moon, Woven Hand, Swans, and Leonard Cohen drifting through these tracks, but Tromiczak never sounds like he's imitating anyone — this is American neofolk stripped to its rawest foundations, then rebuilt as something that feels like both spell and memory.
