Background information about 'The Summoning'

Is it Halloween yet? For Bloody Hammers, that's a silly question, because for the North Carolina duo it's Halloween all year round. On "The Summoning", their fifth album, Anders Manga and Devallia have cooked up a wonderfully creepy horror-musical experience that pays loving homage to the classic video nasties of the 70s, like "Let Sleeping Corpses Lie" (1974) and "Now The Screaming Starts" (1973). But don't expect a one-note nostalgia trip, because Manga has infused these new tracks with a surprising dose of epic metal and hard rock nuance that lifts the whole thing way beyond mere retro worship.

And yet, the lumbering doom riffs are still there, delivering massive waves of goth rock that feel like a fog rolling in off a midnight graveyard. Devallia's psychedelic keyboards remain the secret weapon, and just wait until the hypnotic "The Beast Is Coming Out" sinks its teeth into you, it's the kind of track that burrows into your skull and refuses to leave. The result is a lush, well-balanced and highly infectious record that manages to be both menacing and impossibly catchy at the same time. "The Summoning" doesn't just soundtrack your favorite horror flicks, it feels like the band wrote the score for a movie that only exists in your nightmares. Turn it up, lock the doors and let the darkness in.
