Background information about 'Campo Di Marte'
Some records don't just play — they open a door and pull you through it. "Campo Di Marte", the second full-length from Italy's Camerata Mediolanense, is exactly that kind of record: a ritual of martial drums, tolling bells, chanted Latin and female voices rising like incense over a battlefield. It sits somewhere between neoclassical, dark folk and something far older than either genre, and it has lost none of its strange, ceremonial power.
The ensemble builds its world from the ground up — pounding percussion, brass and woodwind, sampled choirs, and those unmistakable Italian lyrics that turn every track into a procession. There's grandeur here, but also a real sense of melancholy underneath the pomp, the sound of a culture looking back at its own monuments and finding them both beautiful and haunted. It's music for cathedrals, for ruins, for the moment the sun drops behind the Alps.
This re-release finally gives the album the treatment it deserves, pressed on gold vinyl with an inlay, a padded inner sleeve and a protection sleeve. If you've ever fallen for the darker side of European folk and ritual music, this one belongs in your hands.
