The Manes mastermind, a Norwegian institution in avant-garde extreme music for three decades, finally lets his solo vision run wild on Chapter 1: This Endless Solitude, the first part of an ambitious trilogy. What started as Skei alone in his studio, revisiting unfinished sketches with an arsenal of guitars, homemade plug-ins, and recording software, quickly grew into something far more sprawling. Over 15 collaborators — including fellow Manes members and, yes, Buddhist monks — weave in and out of this labyrinthine debut.

The album kicks off with The Rhythm of Silence, a track that slinks through the cracks between trip-hop, industrial noise, and rap without ever breaking a sweat. Reoccurring Dreams pulls you into a hypnotic spiral of soft synths before descending into full-blown nightmare territory. But it's Would You Take This Heart that stops you cold — Martyna Halas's haunting voice cuts through the gloom like a lifeline. Death, anxiety, intrusive thoughts — they're all here, lurking in every corner like the wilted flowers on the cover. Yet somehow, Skei finds light in the darkness, a guiding rope through the cave. This isn't just a solo album; it's a communal exorcism, a boundless force that refuses to be contained.
