More about the book 'Zeitlos - Bairische Mundartgedichte Von Tod Und Leben Buch Deutsch'

Matthias Jell has spent more than three decades in the service of black metal, and now he steps sideways into a different kind of darkness. "Zeitlos - Bairische Mundartgedichte von Tod und Leben" is his first collection of poems, and it lands with the weight of something long held back. The leap is smaller than it looks: Jell has always written his own lyrics, and on the two albums of his current project Gràb, "Zeitlang" (2021) and "Kremess" (2025), he already let the Bavarian dialect of his homeland carry the words. Here that voice gets the room it deserves.

Death is the recurring visitor in these pages, but never a cheap shock. Jell threads it together with the magic and force of nature, the long road of solitude, and the bitterness that grows out of human behaviour, placing himself squarely in the tradition of Romanticism. What makes the cycle so moving is its honesty. The author has lived with depression for many years, and these poems are his attempt to turn pain into something creative, to become a light in his own darkness. At first glance many of them read despondent, soaked in heavy feeling, yet the message underneath is stubbornly positive, and it is aimed at everyone, not only at fellow sufferers: you have talents that can carry you through the worst hours. Never give up.

The book itself is a beautiful object, a full-colour hardcover of 80 pages with illustrations by Benjamin König and nature photography by Markus Stock (Empyrium, The Vision Bleak), who also composed the background music for the accompanying audiobook, read by Jell himself.

For fans of: Gràb, Empyrium, The Vision Bleak, and poetry that refuses to look away.
