Background information about 'Immemorial'

There are albums that simply crush you under their own emotional weight, and Mythological Cold Towers' Immemorial is precisely that kind of beast. This Brazilian ensemble has been lurking in the shadows of the underground since the mid-90s, and with this 2011 offering they deliver what might just be their most devastating statement yet. The album opens with “Lost Path To Ma Noa,” and from the very first crushing riff, you know you're in for something monumental — the kind of doom that doesn't just slow things down but actively pulls you into a vortex of melancholy and grandeur.

What sets Immemorial apart from the countless other doom releases out there is the sheer atmosphere these guys conjure. “Akakor” and “Enter the Halls of Petrous Power” unfold like ancient rituals, blending funeral-paced heaviness with melodies that feel carved from stone. The guitar work is absolutely massive, drenched in reverb, while the growls come from somewhere deep beneath the earth's crust. “The Shrines of Ibez” is a particular highlight — a track that builds and builds until you're completely swallowed by its oppressive beauty. And then there's the title track, “Immemorial,” which closes the journey with an almost transcendental sense of despair. This is doom metal that understands the power of patience, of letting a riff breathe until it becomes something almost spiritual. The production is raw enough to retain that underground grit but clear enough to let every layer of misery shine through.
