NEGURA BUNGET · Zău | CD+DVD ARTBOOK

Heavy artbook 28x28cm, 36 pages with extended artwork, detailed essay by Jonathan Setzer, English text translations and a bonus DVD.

Background information about 'Zău'

There are records that feel less like listening and more like standing in a doorway to somewhere older, and Negura Bunget's "Zău" is exactly that kind of doorway. The Romanian collective built their reputation on a sound where black metal's frost meets the warm, earthy pulse of folk instruments, and here that tension is sharper than ever. Guitars carve cold, angular lines while traditional flutes and percussion breathe underneath, and the vocals shift between a rasp and a chant as if the same throat were speaking two languages at once. It is ritual music, but never stiff or academic, always moving with a strange, hypnotic swing.

What makes "Zău" so gripping is the way it refuses to pick a side. The riffs hit with real weight, the atmosphere is thick enough to touch, and yet there is melody everywhere, woven into the fabric rather than pasted on top. The album moves in long arcs, letting ideas unfold slowly, and the patience pays off in moments that genuinely raise the hair on your arms. This edition honours that depth with a heavy 28x28cm artbook, 36 pages of extended artwork, a detailed essay by Jonathan Setzer and English translations of the lyrics, so the words finally open up for listeners outside Romania. A bonus DVD adds another layer, with an uncut version of "Brad" and a single edit. It is the rare package that treats the music as a complete world rather than a product.
