Background information about 'In The Shades Of Life'

Old Man’s Child has always stood as a singular force in the melodic black metal landscape, blending atmospheric dread with crushing heaviness. With In The Shades Of Life, they deliver yet another masterclass in dark, cinematic soundscapes that refuse to let go. The album opens with the haunting descent of "St. Aidens Fall," immediately pulling the listener into a world where sorrow and fury intertwine. It’s not just about aggression; it’s about emotion channeled through razor-sharp riffs and thunderous drums that feel like a storm breaking over a desolate battlefield.

As the tracks progress, the band showcases their signature ability to weave intricate melodies into the chaos. "Seeds Of The Ancient Gods" and "Manet Sorgfull Igjennom Skogen" offer moments of eerie beauty amidst the darkness, proving that Old Man’s Child can be as tender as they are brutal. The title track, "The Old Man's Child," serves as a centerpiece, embodying the album’s thematic core with a sense of impending doom and resigned acceptance. Even the cover of Slayer’s "Black Magic" fits seamlessly, adding a layer of classic thrash energy to the mix. This is a record that demands to be heard from start to finish, rewarding those who delve into its shades of life with a profound sense of musical satisfaction.
