Background information about 'Erevos'
Greek black metal outfit Penthos returns with their sophomore effort "Erevos", a chilling testament to traditional black metal craftsmanship that'll leave you absolutely mesmerized. Named after the daimon of grief, despair and sadness from Greek mythology, this Athens-based quintet has been brewing sinister soundscapes since 2017, and boy, do they deliver on this new offering. The nine tracks that make up "Erevos" are drenched in that murky atmosphere we all crave, but here's the twist - despite their Greek origins and mythological themes, Penthos channels pure Scandinavian black metal energy.
What strikes you immediately is how these guys have mastered the art of dynamic songwriting. Tracks like "Dancing Dead" and "Thanatos" seamlessly oscillate between crushing mid-tempo passages and blistering fast-paced sections, creating this captivating listening experience that keeps you hooked for the full 40+ minutes. The cold, melancholic riffs echo Finnish black metal traditions, while the groovy, slower moments remind you of Carpathian Forest or Tulus at their most atmospheric. This isn't about reinventing the wheel - it's about perfecting traditional black metal with professional studio production and memorable, catchy riffs that stick with you long after the final note fades.
For fans of: Carpathian Forest, Tulus, Sargeist, Horna and Behexen
