Einar Selvik, the band's main composer, delves into a profound conversation with nature, seeking the voice of the bear. "Birna," which translates to bear in Old Norse, is a tribute to the forest's guardian and her earthly struggles. As modern society encroaches upon her habitat, she retreats into a state of perpetual hibernation. Consequently, the forest mourns for its vibrant heart—its protector—and yearns for her return. The bear, a revered figure in ancient northern hemisphere myths and still honored by many indigenous cultures as a totemic creature, represents both our feared predator and revered guide. The rhythmic heartbeat of this slumbering giant, at approximately nine beats per minute, echoes throughout the album. This cyclical rhythm is embedded in nature's fabric and ancient worldviews, fueling Selvik's creative spirit. "Birna" embodies Selvik's philosophy of sowing new seeds while strengthening old roots. Ancient instruments combined with modern soundscapes and natural recordings offer a rare introspective journey into our connection with nature.
