Background information about 'Raising Fear'

Raising Fear is where Armored Saint stopped being the promising kid brother of the LA metal scene and started swinging like a heavyweight. John Bush had already proven he could roar, but here he sounds like a man who has seen the wrong end of the business and decided to sing about it anyway — all grit, all conviction, no filler. The riffs of Dave Prichard and Phil Sandoval lock in tight, trading off between galloping trad-metal charges and slower, meaner grooves that hit like a boot to the chest.

What makes this record stick is the songwriting. "Chemical Euphoria" and the title track don't just riff — they build tension, release it, then come back for more. There's a street-level grit running through the whole thing that keeps it from ever feeling like a period piece; this is heavy metal made by guys who actually lived in the world they were writing about. The rhythm section of Joey Vera and Gonzo Sandoval deserves a shout too, laying down a foundation that's both muscular and surprisingly nimble.
