Armory have been tearing across the cosmos since 2012, and with "Echoes of the Astrolith" the Gothenburg speed metal invaders return with their fourth full-length — and this thing absolutely refuses to slow down. If their first three records already burned like a meteor with Earth in its sights, this one hits with the force of a full-on planetary impact. The guiding stars are still Judas Priest, Agent Steel, and Slayer, but Armory have long since carved out their own sprawling, star-strewn universe, and on this record they push it further than ever.

The biggest immediate jolt is new vocalist C. Rostoff, a turbo-laser of a singer whose dynamic, fearless voice shoots straight through the void, narrating the eerie tales of the album's nine main tracks. But the real evolution here is in the sound itself: darker, heavier, and flat-out more venomous than anything they've done before. Yes, it's speed metal, but it's faster, more infectious, and absolutely relentless. The song structures flirt with technical metal, and the interplay between the musicians is so tightly locked that "Echoes of the Astrolith" seems to race from one end of the starlit emptiness to the other with shameless zeal. Calling this record a speed metal UFO wouldn't be far off. Step into Armory's menacing, pitch-black parallel universe — if you dare.
