Origins and Formation

The band's genesis traces back to a fateful car ride to Wacken Open Air in 2004, where Vespasian and Horaz discovered their shared musical vision. Their band name, inspired by Tinto Brass's film "Caligula," reflects their fascination with Roman imperial themes of power, decadence, and the cyclical nature of civilizations. Both members adopted Roman personas: Vespasian after the pragmatic emperor of the Flavian dynasty, and Horaz after the renowned Roman poet, embodying the philosophical quote "We are dust and shadows."

Musical Evolution

Imperium Dekadenz describes their sound as "powerful, icy, and organic," drawing inspiration from Scandinavian black metal pioneers like Burzum, Shining, and Darkthrone, while incorporating atmospheric elements reminiscent of Dead Can Dance. Their compositions seamlessly weave together aggressive black metal passages with melodic interludes, creating immersive sonic journeys that transport listeners through ancient landscapes and modern existential contemplation.
