When a band from the Black Forest decides to dig into Roman antiquity, you'd better buckle up. Imperium Dekadenz have always had a thing for grand, melancholic gestures, and on "Dis Manibvs" they push that instinct to its logical extreme. The record takes its name from the Roman spirits of the dead, and you can feel that funereal gravity in every riff. Cold tremolo passages collide with sweeping, almost doom-laden chord progressions, while the vocals shift between desperate shrieks and deep, ritualistic chants. It is black metal, no question, but it breathes like something far older and stranger.
What makes this album so gripping is the balance. The duo never lets atmosphere swallow the songwriting. Tracks like "Only Fragments of Light" and "Vae Victis" build and release tension with real craft, and when the title track finally lands, it hits like a monument. The production is crisp enough to let the details shine, yet grim enough to keep the frost on the windows. It is a record that rewards patience and volume in equal measure, and it cements the band's place among the most distinctive voices in German extreme metal.
