Background information about 'Als Tier ist der Mensch nichts'
Emerging from the underground void, Unru craft something genuinely unsettling with "Als Tier ist der Mensch nichts". This German collective doesn't play by anyone's rules, smashing together black metal's icy brutality with crust punk's raw aggression into something that feels both familiar and completely alien. The four tracks here stretch across 36 minutes of uncompromising sonic warfare, each song a deliberate middle finger to genre purists and convention followers alike.
What makes this debut full-length so compelling isn't just its genre-blending audacity, but how Unru manages to maintain a coherent vision throughout the chaos. From the opening assault of "Zerfall & Manifest" through the literary-titled "Das Anna-Karenina-Prinzip" to the closing devastation of "Totemiker", there's an underlying intelligence that elevates this beyond mere noise. The band's previous splits with Sun Worship and Paramnesia hinted at this potential, but here they've fully realized their vision of extreme music that's both punishing and strangely beautiful.
