With their debut album "The Land under the Black Wings: Swamp" ("Зямля пад чорнымі крыламі: Дрыгва"), Dymna Lotva introduced a fresh perspective to Black Metal in 2016, infusing it with distinct Belarusian elements. This conceptual masterpiece, envisioned as the first part of a trilogy, draws from historical events and legends of Belarus, echoing the country's classical literature. The creative spark ignited by the news of Belarusian author Svetlana Alexievich receiving the Nobel Prize in Literature led to the band's first song, inspired by quotes from Lyudmila Ignatenko, widow of a Chernobyl liquidator, whose story also significantly influenced HBO's "Chernobyl" series. Their sophomore album "Wormwood" ("Палын") revisited the Chernobyl theme in 2017.

After its release, political persecution forced founding members to flee their homeland. Continuing their trilogy with "The Land under the Black Wings" ("Зямля Пад Чорнымі Крыламі: Кроў"), Dymna Lotva expanded their sound towards Doom and traditional tones while retaining Nordic Black Metal roots. Katsiaryna "Nokt Aeon" Mankevich's vocal prowess combined with guitarist Jauhien Charkasau's Slavic compositions create Dymna Lotva's unique sound. The band's name, meaning "Swamp in Smoke," reflects the tragic events surrounding burned villages in Polesia—a swamp region along the Pripyat River now divided among four countries.
