Spirit Adrift

Spirit Adrift emerged in 2015 from the creative vision of Nathan Garrett, a veteran of the American underground scene who had previously contributed to Gatecreeper and Take Over and Destroy. The project evolved from its inception as a solo endeavor into a full band that redefined classic doom metal with modern production values and emotional depth.

The early releases Chained to Oblivion (2016, Prosthetic Records) and Curse of Conception (2017, Prosthetic Records) established Spirit Adrift as a powerful voice in contemporary doom metal. Garrett's compositional style merges the monumental riff structures of traditional doom with melodic elements reminiscent of the great eras of Black Sabbath and Candlemass. Production by Matt Bayles (Mastodon, Isis) gave the albums a crystal-clear heaviness that appealed to both purists and modern listeners.

With Enlightened in Eternity (2020, 20 Buck Spin), the band reached a creative peak, proving their ability to combine epic song structures with accessible melodies. The album marked the transition to 20 Buck Spin, a label known for its curated selection of progressive metal acts. Tracks like "Cosmic Conquest" demonstrated Garrett's evolution as a songwriter who translates complex thematic concepts into catchy yet crushing doom passages.

Infinite Illumination (2024, 20 Buck Spin) represents the final chapter of Spirit Adrift. Garrett announced this would be the band's last album, giving the work special significance. The record shows a return to original doom roots with palpable urgency and raw intensity. Songs like "Born in a Bad Way" and "White Death" reveal a more fatalistic approach, addressing both spiritual and terrestrial themes through thunderous mid-tempo marches and Garrett's impassioned vocals.

The band's decade-long journey showcases an impeccable signature molded from elemental heavy metal traditions.
