Background information about 'Damaged Strange Different And Live'

There are live albums, and then there are live albums — the kind that grab you by the throat and don't let go until the final note has faded into feedback and crowd roar. Blaze Bayley has been through more than most, and every ounce of that hard-won resilience bleeds through the speakers on Damaged Strange Different And Live. This isn't some sanitized, overdubbed-to-death live recording. This is raw, honest, and absolutely electrifying.

The setlist is a glorious deep-dive into Blaze's solo catalogue, kicking off with the defiant one-two punch of "War Within Me" and "Pull Yourself Up" — songs that feel less like tracks and more like survival anthems. "Warrior" hits with the kind of conviction that only comes from a man who's stared into the abyss and come back swinging. And then there's "The Power of Nikola Tesla," a sprawling epic that showcases the theatrical, storytelling side of Bayley's work, driven by the brilliant, underrated guitar work of his band. "18 Flights" brings that relentless, galloping energy that reminds you why this man once fronted the biggest metal band on the planet.

And speaking of which — the Maiden section. Four tracks deep, and every single one a deep cut the diehards have been screaming for. "Lord of the Flies" sounds heavier and more menacing than ever, "Judgement of Heaven" is a rare gem delivered with breathtaking passion, "Fortunes of War" rumbles with brooding intensity, and the closing "Como Estais Amigos" is a poignant, emotional gut-punch that proves Blaze's era had some truly special moments. This is a man laying it all on the line, night after night, and this recording captures that magic perfectly.
