Background information about 'Cryptopsy'

Back at the end of the 2000s, the underground scene had seemingly left CRYPTOPSY for dead following a polarizing album that divided their fanbase. However, when they made their return in 2011, it was with renewed vigor and a self-titled album that reestablished them as a formidable force in technical death metal. With John Levasseur returning to the fold, the band found the perfect balance between intricate jazzy elements and their trademark technical brutality. "Two-Pound Torch" set the tone with its relentless energy and complex riffs.

Matt McGachy, though not new to the role, firmly established his place as their frontman on this album. Each track is an exploration of dark Canadian folklore and history, from "Shag Harbour's Visitors" which delves into eerie UFO sightings, to "Red-Skinned Scapegoat," which tells tales of haunting past events. CRYPTOPSY's reemergence marked a triumphant second act in their already legendary career.
