Background information about 'Descend'
Lhaäd dissolves into Däahl. The protagonist in reverse. Water becomes fire — and if that sounds like a riddle, good, because "Descend" wants you to sit with it a while. The Belgians behind Lhaäd already proved themselves elemental across three albums for Amor Fati, each one a literal tsunami of slip-streaming, world-eating black metal. Now the same restless spirit returns under a new name, and the fire has not gone out. If anything, it burns cleaner and meaner.
Black metal is still the base here, but the burning violence goes both inward and outward with inexorable intent. That double direction is what makes this record so gripping: Däahl do not simply bludgeon, they corrode. Riffs tumble forward like water finding a new channel, then turn on themselves in slow, deliberate collapse. There is grandeur in the wreckage, a sense of something enormous shifting just beneath the surface, and the production lets every scar breathe. It is music made by people who understand that heaviness is a matter of pressure, not volume alone.
What strikes hardest is the confidence. Nothing here feels like a first step or a nervous reinvention — it feels like a band arriving fully formed, aware of its own weight and unafraid to use it. The elemental imagery is not decoration; it is the architecture of the thing. Water to fire, protagonist to reverse, a descent that could just as easily be an ascent. Play it loud, play it in the dark, and let it pull you under.
