DEAFHEAVEN · Lonely People With Power | GREEN 2LP

Transparent coke bottle green double vinyl.

Background information about 'Lonely People With Power'

Deafheaven have never been a band content to sit still, and "Lonely People With Power" is the sound of a group tearing up its own rulebook and rewriting it in real time. The San Francisco outfit built its name on a breathtaking collision of black metal fury and shoegaze shimmer, and that DNA is still very much alive here — but this record pushes into stranger, warmer, more human territory. Guitars that once howled now glow, synths drift in like fog rolling off the coast, and the dynamics swing from whisper to avalanche without ever losing the thread of a genuine, beating heart. It is heavy, yes, but heavy in the way that great art is heavy: it stays with you long after the last note fades.

What makes this album such a thrill is how confident it sounds. Every track earns its place, and the guest turns from Jae Matthews and Paul Banks add texture and surprise rather than gimmick. The interludes act as breath and hinge, letting the big pieces land even harder. Deafheaven have always been a band that rewards patience and repeated listens, and this is no exception — the more you give it, the more it gives back. For anyone who has followed them from the early days or is only now discovering what all the fuss is about, this is essential listening, pressed loud and meant to be played loud.
