Background information about 'Hellbound & Hammered'
"Hellbound & Hammered" is the sound of a bar fight breaking out in a rehearsal room, and Devil's Hour are grinning from the middle of the chaos. The Frankfurt four-piece have never pretended to be subtle, and their second full-length leans hard into that glorious refusal. Filthy black 'n' roll with a punk sneer, razor-sharp riffs stacked on precise, driving drums, and vocals that sound like they were recorded through a wall of cheap amps and cheaper whiskey. It is raw, it is abrasive, and it is enormous fun.
What makes this record tick is the range hiding under all that grime. First wave black metal gets dragged through '80s and '90s heavy and speed metal, and the guitar solos are genuinely expansive, unashamedly melodic fireworks dropped into the middle of the muck. Recorded entirely in-house with mixing handled by Taperunner Records and mastering by Nikita Kamprad, the whole thing keeps a live-wire immediacy that suits the material perfectly. Ten tracks of hessian steel forged from beer, rage and pure attitude, and a band happily cementing their reputation as Germany's worst lifestyle product. Play it loud, spill something on it, play it again.
