Background information about 'Sign of the Devil'
Sign of the Devil is the sound of a band who have long since made peace with the fact that the riff is a religion, and Dopelord preach it like true believers. Since crawling out of Poland in 2010, these four have been leading the children of the haze down the left-hand path, and on this record they kick the gates of hell wide open. The riffs are slow, the amps are loud, and the fuzz is thick enough to chew on — caveman doom in its purest, most joyful form. With Behemoth producer Haldor Grunberg behind the desk, every hypnotic groove lands with a physical weight, and the low end rumbles like something ancient waking up beneath the floorboards.
The highlights come thick and fast. "Doom Bastards" is a heavy psychedelic enchantment, all swirling wah and thunderous downstrokes, while "The Witching Hour Bell" has already become a weed-cult favourite for good reason — that riff burrows in and refuses to leave. And then there is "Hail Satan!", a chorus so ridiculously catchy that it will haunt even your haziest dreams. Dopelord take heathenish pride in crafting slow songs with loud amps, and it shows in every bar. Fabian Staniec (Pathogen Tattoo Studio) supplies artwork that matches the music's smoky, ritualistic mood. This is stoner-doom that truly raises horns.
