Background information about 'Nowhere'
Nowhere arrives like weather rolling in off a cold coast — slow, heavy, and impossible to shake. Esben And The Witch have always traded in atmosphere, but here the trio strip things back to bone and shadow, letting Rachel Davies' voice drift through cavernous space while the guitars circle like something patient and hungry. It is gothic in the truest sense: not costume, but architecture. Tracks like "A Desire For Light" build from a whisper into a wall of shimmering dread, and "Dull Gret" moves with a strange, almost ceremonial grace that rewards every repeated listen.
There is real craft in the restraint. Nothing here is rushed, nothing is wasted — the band understands that tension lives in the space between notes, and they exploit it beautifully across these six pieces. "Golden Purifier" glows with a haunted warmth, while "The Unspoiled" and "Seclusion" pull you deeper into a landscape that feels both ancient and eerily modern. By the time "Darkness (I Too Am Here)" closes the record, you are somewhere else entirely, and you will want to go back.
