Background information about 'Riddles Of The Sycophants'
Ghosts Of Atlantis don't do things by halves. On "Riddles Of The Sycophants" the British collective builds towering cathedrals of melodic death metal, and every single stone is placed with intent. The guitars shimmer and slash in equal measure, twin harmonies riding high above blastbeats that hit like a collapsing cliff face, while the growls rumble deep enough to shake the floorboards. There's a cinematic sweep to this record — choirs, keys and orchestral flourishes lurking just beneath the surface — but it never tips into hollow bombast. It stays heavy, it stays hungry.
What makes this album stick is the songwriting. Tracks like the opener and the title cut don't just pummel you; they take you somewhere. Melodies you'll be humming days later are bolted onto riffs built for the pit, and the dynamics shift so naturally that the quieter passages feel earned rather than decorative. It's the sound of a band who clearly grew up on the greats of the Swedish and Finnish schools but refuse to simply imitate them. Epic, melodic, and genuinely thrilling — this is one to play loud and play often.
