Background information about 'Ofnir'
When Heilung self-released "Ofnir" in 2015, this Danish collective could hardly have anticipated the breakthrough success that would follow. The album serves as a mesmerizing journey through ancient Nordic traditions, blending ritualistic chanting, traditional instruments, and atmospheric soundscapes that transport listeners to a primordial world. Each track feels like an invocation, with the band's name literally meaning "healing" in German - a concept that perfectly encapsulates the therapeutic and transcendent nature of their music.
The album showcases Heilung's unique approach to what they call "amplified history," using reconstructed texts from rune stones, amulets, and other ancient artifacts as the foundation for their compositions. Tracks like "Krigsgaldr" and "In Maidjan" demonstrate their ability to create powerful, trance-inducing experiences that feel both ancient and utterly contemporary. The production captures every whisper, every drum beat, and every haunting vocal line with crystal clarity, making this reissue on colored vinyl a must-have for collectors and newcomers alike.
For fans of: Wardruna, Garmarna, Myrkur, and Danheim
