Background information about 'Sagas'

Heilung have spent the last decade doing something no one else quite manages: stitching the spiritual gap between modern life and our oldest roots, and doing it loud enough to land on festival main stages, the Billboard charts and Hollywood soundtracks. With "Sagas" they walk straight into the world of video games — and somehow come back with one of the most cinematic records in their catalogue.

The album gathers the recordings that Maria Franz, Kai Uwe Faust and Christopher Juul built together with Ninja Theory for Hellblade II: Senua's Saga. Eleven tracks, and every one of them breathes differently than the ritual thunder we know from the stage. There is more air here, more space, more landscape. "Seidh", which they performed live at The Game Awards, summons the Norse mythology that pushes Senua across 9th century Iceland, and it is genuinely hypnotic. But "Sagas" refuses to stay a soundtrack. After a ten-day trip across Iceland, the trio came home so rattled by the raw force of the land that they kept writing — and the previously unheard "Slagt" erupts out of rumbling drums and fiery chanting like a volcano that has already made up its mind about the apocalypse. Even staring down the end of the world, though, this band leaves room for repair: lead single "Laeknisgaldr" heals by sheer repetition, water over stone, until the stone gives in.

This edition adds 'Ambient', a bonus disc of eight atmospheric soundscapes written to pull players even deeper into Senua's world. Cover by Kai Uwe Faust, layout by Christopher Juul, Maria Franz and Adrien Bousson.
