Background information about 'Sagas + Sagas Ambient'

Heilung have always been about bridging the gap between the modern world and something much older, and "Sagas" finds the ritual collective diving straight into the world of video games without ever losing that ancient pulse. Written and recorded with Ninja Theory for Hellblade II: Senua's Saga, these eleven tracks carry a distinctly cinematic and environmental character, yet they never feel like background music. Performed live at The Game Awards, "Seidh" summons the Norse mythology that guides Senua through 9th century Iceland, all hypnotic percussion and voices that seem to rise out of the fog.

What makes this release so special is that it refuses to stay inside the game. Maria Franz, Kai Uwe Faust and Christopher Juul came home from a ten-day trip across Iceland so inspired by the brute force of nature that they kept writing, and the results are gathered here alongside the soundtrack material. "Slagt" opens with rumbling drums and fiery chanting, prophesying the apocalypse with the unstoppable force of a volcano, while lead single "Laeknisgaldr" heals through sheer repetition, like water washing over stone. The companion "Sagas Ambient" stretches those ideas into wide, wordless landscapes, perfect for anyone who wants to disappear into the atmosphere for a while.
