Background information about 'Sagas'

"Sagas" is where Heilung let the ice in. Born from a ten-day trek across Iceland and a collaboration with Ninja Theory for Hellblade II: Senua's Saga, this record carries eleven pieces of ritual music that breathe like the landscape they came from — rumbling frame drums, throat singing that seems to rise straight out of the moss, chanted invocations circling each other until they lock into something hypnotic. What could have been a mere soundtrack turned into a proper album, and you can hear why: the trio came home so charged by the brute force of the island that they kept writing past the game's brief.

"Seidh" is the gateway, a slow-burning spell that was performed live at The Game Awards and still sounds like it belongs in a torchlit hall rather than a TV studio. "Slagt" hits harder, a previously unheard piece that prophesies the end of the world with the momentum of a volcano, all pounding percussion and fire in the throat. And then there's "Laeknisgaldr", the lead single, which does something quietly radical: it heals by repetition, a phrase worn smooth like water over stone. The production is wide and cinematic without ever feeling airbrushed — you can hear hands on skin, breath in a room, the creak of old instruments.

For anyone who thought Heilung had already peaked, this is a reminder that their ritual still has unexplored rooms. It is immersive, earthy and genuinely moving, the kind of record that makes a living room feel like a clearing in the woods at dusk.
