Background information about 'Signum of Hate'

Time has a funny way of polishing gems that were once overlooked. And boy, does Impending Doom's second full-length Signum of Hate shine bright now. Originally released in 1997, this album was a massive leap forward from the Thuringian crew's debut - tighter, meaner, and oozing with an aggression that still sounds fresh today. The band, active from 1993 to roughly 2005, built a reputation far beyond German borders by blending Thrash, Death and Black Metal into their own volatile concoction.

What strikes you immediately about Signum of Hate is how the keyboards - present on earlier works - have been stripped back to mere atmospheric accents. What's left is a razor-sharp assault of lightning-fast, Thrash-infused riffing that grabs you by the throat from the opening notes of \u201cThe Age Of Antichrist\u201d. Tracks like \u201cDemon-(Mon)Archy\u201d, \u201cLand Of Burning Coffins\u201d and \u201cSumerian Awakening\u201d are concise, efficient and ridiculously catchy in that dark, underground metal way. The production, lovingly restored and mastered by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony in 2026, gives these songs the clarity they always deserved without losing their raw edge. This reissue comes packed with previously unseen photos and a new interview with all band members. A proper resurrection of a cult German metal classic.
