Let's talk about Tribulation. These Swedish death metal shape-shifters have been on a wild ride from straight-up corpsepaint brutality to something far more gothic, theatrical, and downright seductive. Their 2023 EP Hamartia is a perfect little snapshot of where they're at right now — dark, melodic, and dripping with atmosphere.
The title track kicks things off with that signature Tribulation groove: twin guitars weaving haunting melodies over a relentless rhythm section. It's got that post-punk swagger mixed with death metal muscle, like The Cure if they'd grown up on Slayer instead of Siouxsie. Axis Mundi follows, a sprawling, almost ritualistic piece that builds and builds before collapsing into beautiful chaos. The B-side serves up Hemoclysm, a rager that reminds you these guys can still crush skulls when they want to, and closes with Vengeance (The Pact) — a cover that fits their aesthetic like a black leather glove. Four tracks, no filler, pure nocturnal energy.
