Background information about 'Polygondwanaland'
Here is a record that feels less like an album and more like a map to somewhere that doesn't exist yet. King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard took their restless, hyper-productive energy and pointed it straight at progressive rock on "Polygondwanaland" — and the result is one of the most rewarding listens in their sprawling catalogue. The song structures twist and fold back on themselves, guitars lock into hypnotic patterns, and the transitions are so smooth you barely notice you've been carried somewhere new. It's ambitious without ever feeling bloated, intricate without losing the groove.
What makes this one special is the flow. Tracks bleed into one another like movements in a longer piece, with odd time signatures and layered textures that reward repeated spins. There's a warmth to the psychedelic haze here, a sense of the band genuinely chasing something rather than just showing off. The musicianship is adventurous, but it always serves the song — and the whole thing hangs together as a seamless journey rather than a collection of separate ideas.
