Background information about 'Voice Of Wilderness'
Korpiklaani's sophomore effort "Voice Of Wilderness" stands as a pivotal moment in the Finnish folk metal scene, showcasing the band's evolution from their earlier Shamaani Duo roots into a more refined and powerful sound. This album perfectly captures the essence of Finnish folklore and nature worship through crushing metal riffs intertwined with traditional folk melodies and instruments. The record demonstrates Korpiklaani's ability to balance their drinking songs and party anthems with more serious, atmospheric compositions that paint vivid pictures of the Nordic wilderness.
The album's strength lies in its authentic connection to Finnish culture, with tracks like "Spirit of the Forest" and "Native Land" delivering both musical complexity and cultural storytelling. Songs such as "Beer Beer" and "Ryyppäjäiset" showcase the band's lighter side while maintaining the folk metal foundation that would become their trademark. The production captures the raw energy of their live performances while allowing each instrument to shine, from the accordion melodies to the thunderous drumwork that drives these forest tales forward.
