About the album

With their fifth album "New Wilderness Gospel", American folk innovators Lux Interna present the centrepiece of a larger ongoing multimedia work that envisions an anthropocenic apocalypse. This artistic synthesis grew from Joshua's doctoral research involving early modern esoteric manuscripts connected to the mystic Jacob Böhme and his circle in Europe. Against a backdrop of chaotic environmental events in Northern California, Kathryn and Joshua translated this emergent world into music and imagery leading to an apocalyptic 'gospel' for the Anthropocene.

Musically eclectic, Lux Interna spins "New Wilderness Gospel" from threads including desert blues, Appalachian folk, gospel, gothic psychedelia alongside traces of post-punk and warped elements of 60s girl pop and 80s new wave. Following their debut EP "Truth, Beauty, and All Their Severity" (2000), Lux Interna released four studio albums culminating in "There Is Light in the Body, There Is Blood in the Sun" (2013). The comprehensive work "New Wilderness Gospel" offers a thought-provoking vision of natural apocalypse through impactful lyrics and captivating music.
