Background information about 'New Wilderness Gospel'

With their fifth album "New Wilderness Gospel," American folk innovators Lux Interna present the centerpiece of a larger ongoing multimedia work envisioning an anthropocenic apocalypse. The seeds of this synthesis were planted during Joshua's research for his doctoral dissertation, involving early modern esoteric manuscripts related to the mystic Jacob Böhme. Set against a backdrop of environmental challenges impacting their Northern California live-work space, Kathryn and Joshua collaboratively explored these themes through imagery, music, and film, culminating in an apocalyptic 'gospel' for the anthropocene. Musically, Lux Interna spins "New Wilderness Gospel" from diverse threads: desert blues, Appalachian folk, gospel, gothic psychedelia, post-punk, with hints of 60s girl pop and 80s new wave. Following their debut EP "Truth, Beauty, and All Their Severity" (2000), they released four albums: "Absence and Plenum" (2002), "Ignis Mutat Res" (2004), "God Is Not Dead for the Birds" (2007), and "There Is Light in the Body..." (2013). In this Gesamtkunstwerk, Lux Interna presents a thought-provoking image of natural apocalypse with signs already heralded in their lyrics and breathtaking music. Hark!
