Background information about 'Runaljod - Gap Var Ginnunga'
Wardruna delivers something absolutely extraordinary with "Runaljod - Gap Var Ginnunga" – a mesmerizing journey into the ancient Norse world that feels both primal and utterly transcendent. This isn't just an album; it's a sonic ritual that channels the mystical power of the Elder Futhark runes through traditional Nordic instruments and Einar Selvik's haunting vocals. Each track pulses with the raw energy of pre-Christian Scandinavia, weaving together bone flutes, mouth harps, goat horns, and frame drums in ways that make your soul remember something it never knew it had forgotten.
The album unfolds like an ancient ceremony, with tracks like "Hagal" and "Bjarkan" creating atmospheric soundscapes that transport you straight to misty fjords and primordial forests. Selvik's voice becomes an instrument of the gods themselves, chanting in Old Norse with such conviction that you can practically feel the runes burning into existence. This is folk music stripped down to its absolute essence – no modern pretense, just pure connection to something infinitely older and more powerful than ourselves.
