Background information about 'Ultima Thulée'
"Ultima Thulée" stands as a monumental piece in the evolution of atmospheric black metal. Released initially in 1995, this album encapsulates a raw and cold sound that is distinctly unique to Blut Aus Nord's early foray into the French underground scene. The haunting melodies and intricate guitar work weave a soundscape that is both chilling and mesmerizing, evoking a sense of desolation and transcendence. Each track unravels like a dark journey through mythological landscapes, driven by relentless percussion and otherworldly vocals.
The reissue of "Ultima Thulée" on electric blue/silver splatter vinyl breathes new life into this timeless masterpiece. The album's themes of isolation and icy grandeur are perfectly mirrored in its sonic architecture—each track building upon the last with increasing intensity. This limited edition release is not just a testament to Blut Aus Nord's innovative spirit but also to the enduring power of black metal to transport listeners beyond the mundane into realms of introspective exploration.
