Background information about 'Shining'
Shining delivers another crushing blow to the soul with their self-titled opus, a relentless journey through the darkest corridors of human despair. This Swedish depressive black metal juggernaut continues their tradition of sonic brutality wrapped in melancholic beauty, creating an atmosphere so suffocating yet captivating that it becomes impossible to escape. The album opens with "Avsändare okänd" setting the tone for what becomes an emotional bloodbath of epic proportions.
The band's mastery of dynamics shines through tracks like "Snart är dom alla borta" and "Allt för döden," where crushing heaviness meets haunting melodic passages that burrow deep into your psyche. The inclusion of an Erik Satie cover "Åttahundratjugo" showcases their artistic range, transforming classical composition into something utterly sinister. Closing with "Den permanenta sömnen kallar," the album leaves listeners in a state of beautiful devastation that only Shining can deliver.
