Background information about 'Shining'

Swedish black metal legends Shining return with their self-titled opus, a devastating exploration of darkness that showcases the band's evolution while maintaining their signature nihilistic edge. This album represents a crucial moment in the band's discography, featuring the haunting track "Fidelis Ad Mortem" with a guest appearance by legendary guitarist Andy La Rocque of King Diamond fame. The collaboration adds an extra layer of theatrical darkness to an already intense listening experience, while tracks like "Allt För Döden" and "Den Permanenta Sömnen Kallar" demonstrate the band's ability to craft atmospheric black metal that's both brutal and emotionally devastating.

The album flows seamlessly from the opening "Avsändare Okänd" through to the closing "Den Permanenta Sömnen Kallar", creating a cohesive journey through despair and darkness. Shining's trademark blend of depressive black metal with progressive elements shines through every track, making this self-titled effort a standout release that both longtime fans and newcomers will find compelling. The production perfectly balances rawness with clarity, allowing each instrument to cut through the mix while maintaining the cold, unforgiving atmosphere that defines the band's sound.
