Background information about '2013'
Mystery delivers a powerhouse statement with "2013", an album that proves heavy metal's enduring vitality in the modern era. Opening with the atmospheric instrumental "2013: A New Dawn", the band immediately establishes their commitment to both classic metal traditions and contemporary energy. The Australian outfit demonstrates remarkable songcraft throughout, with tracks like "Raise Your Fist" and "Freedom" showcasing their ability to blend crushing riffs with anthemic choruses that demand audience participation.
What sets this release apart is Mystery's fearless approach to covering legendary material alongside their original compositions. Their interpretation of Dio's "Stand Up And Shout" pays proper homage while injecting their own metallic DNA, while their take on Men At Work's "Land Down Under" transforms the Australian classic into a heavy metal anthem. The album's pacing is expertly crafted, with mid-tempo crushers like "Test Of Time" and "On Fire" providing breathing room between the more aggressive assaults. "Lost In Time" serves as the album's epic centerpiece, stretching beyond four minutes to showcase the band's dynamic range and compositional depth.
