Background information about 'The Plague Within'
When Paradise Lost unleashed "The Plague Within" in 2015, it marked a seismic shift back to their death-doom origins that sent shockwaves through the metal community. This fourteenth studio album finds the Halifax legends embracing their brutal past while maintaining the sophisticated songwriting that has defined their three-decade career. The crushing weight of "No Hope In Sight" and the relentless assault of "Terminal" showcase a band reborn, channeling the same dark energy that made their early works legendary.
What makes "The Plague Within" so compelling is how Paradise Lost seamlessly weave their death metal brutality with the gothic melancholy that became their signature. Tracks like "An Eternity Of Lies" and "Beneath Broken Earth" demonstrate Nick Holmes' versatility, switching between death growls and haunting clean vocals with masterful precision. The album's production perfectly captures the band's renewed aggression while preserving the atmospheric depth that has always set them apart from their contemporaries.
