Background information about 'Curious Volume (Re-Release)'
When doom metal legends Pentagram returned with "Curious Volume" in 2015, they delivered a crushing statement that proved the Virginia pioneers still had fire in their souls. This isn't just another comeback album – it's a masterclass in how to channel decades of underground credibility into something genuinely vital and menacing. Bobby Liebling's unmistakable vocals soar over Victor Griffin's crushing riffs, creating an atmosphere that's both nostalgic and utterly contemporary.
The album showcases Pentagram at their most focused, with tracks like the title cut "Curious Volume" and the haunting "Misunderstood" demonstrating why they've influenced countless bands over their storied career. The production by Mattias Nilsson captures every nuance of their sound, from the thunderous low-end to Liebling's distinctive vocal delivery. This isn't retro doom – it's timeless doom, the kind that reminds you why Pentagram helped define the genre in the first place.
