Plasmatics never did anything by half measures, and Coup De Grace is living proof that this band could set the world on fire with nothing more than raw attitude and a wall of amplifiers. This is the record where Wendy O. Williams and her crew of New York outlaws took the snotty, street-level fury of punk and welded it onto the roaring engine of heavy metal. The result is a collision of leather, chains and scorched guitar riffs that still sounds dangerous decades later. Tracks like Put Your Love In Me and Stop hit with the force of a freight train, while No Class sees them tearing through the Motörhead classic with the kind of reckless glee only these guys could get away with.

What makes Coup De Grace so special is that it refuses to sit still. One minute you're getting your teeth kicked in by the relentless drive of Lightning Breaks, the next you're caught off guard by the sneering swagger of Just Like On TV. Wendy's vocals are a weapon in their own right, equal parts howl, growl and battle cry, and the band behind her swings like a wrecking ball. From the anthemic stomp of The Damned to the twisted energy of Country Fairs, every cut feels like a Molotov cocktail waiting to go off. This is the sound of a band at the very edge, laughing while the world burns around them.
