QUEENSRYCHE · Empire | BLACK 2LP

Black double vinyl. Remastered at Abbey Road Studios.

Background information about 'Empire'

Queensrÿche's third studio masterpiece "Empire" stands as one of the most pivotal albums in progressive metal history, marking the Seattle quintet's commercial breakthrough without sacrificing their intricate musicianship. Released in 1990, this album perfectly balances accessibility with the band's signature complex arrangements, showcasing Geoff Tate's operatic vocals soaring over Chris DeGarmo and Michael Wilton's dual guitar mastery. The album's crown jewel, "Silent Lucidity", became a massive MTV hit while tracks like "Jet City Woman" and the title track "Empire" demonstrate the band's ability to craft both radio-friendly anthems and deeper progressive compositions.

What makes "Empire" truly special is how it captures Queensrÿche at their creative peak, blending heavy metal power with sophisticated songwriting that tackles themes of social consciousness, personal struggle, and political commentary. The production, originally helmed by Peter Collins, receives new life in this Abbey Road remaster, allowing every nuance of the band's layered approach to shine through. From the haunting melodies to the thunderous rhythm section of Eddie Jackson and Scott Rockenfield, this album remains a testament to American progressive metal's golden era.
