Background information about 'The Van Murders - Part 2'

The Van Murders - Part 2 arrives like a rusty blade dragged across asphalt — and Ribspreader clearly had no interest in slowing down for anybody. This is the seventh full-length from the Swedish death metal institution built around the tireless Rogga Johansson, and it lands with the kind of greasy, gut-level riffing that made the genre's early nineties heyday so addictive. The production keeps things thick and punishing, all downtuned crunch and drums that snap like breaking bones, while Kjetil Lynghaug's lead work slices through the murk with genuinely nasty melodic instinct. There is a grindhouse swagger running through the whole record, a B-movie bloodlust that never tips into parody.

What makes this one stick is the songwriting discipline. Tracks like "Meat Bandit" and "Flesh Desperados" hit hard and get out fast, built on hooks that burrow in before you have time to brace yourself. "The Cleaners Theme" and its sequel give the album a strange, almost cinematic pulse, and "Come Out And Play Dead" is the kind of title that tells you exactly what kind of party this is. Nothing here overstays its welcome — nine cuts, roughly half an hour, zero filler. It is old-school death metal played by people who still genuinely love the sound of a riff landing like a sledgehammer, and that enthusiasm is contagious from the first second to the last.
