There are records that just hit you square in the chest, and "Darkness Death Doom" is one of them. Runemagick have never been a band to chase trends, and this album is the living proof of why that stubbornness pays off. From the ritualistic opening of "CDXLIV (Intro)" you can feel the air thicken, like the walls are closing in and there's no way out. That's exactly the point. This is death/doom in its purest, most crushing form, and the remaster only sharpens the blade.
What strikes you immediately is the sheer weight of the riffs. Tracks like "Ancient Incantations" and "The Venom" are built on monolithic, slow-burning grooves that bury themselves in your skull and refuse to leave. The vocals are a deep, cavernous growl, but there's a surprising amount of melody lurking beneath the surface, especially in "Eyes of Kali" and the towering "Doomed". This isn't just heaviness for its own sake, it's heaviness with purpose, atmosphere, and a genuine sense of dread. The closing "444 (Outro)" leaves you standing in the ruins, wondering what just happened.
