Seamount have always been the kind of band that plays doom metal like it's a sweaty basement show rather than a cathedral service, and "Nitro Jesus" cranks that instinct up until the walls start to hum. The riffs land thick and greasy, half Black Sabbath worship and half stoner rock swagger, but there's a restless energy underneath that keeps the whole thing from ever settling into a comfortable groove. When the tempo drops, it drops hard, and when they let the fuzz pedal do the talking, you can practically smell the tube amps cooking.
What makes this record stick is the songwriting. Tracks like "Scars Of The Emotional Stuntman" and "Hold Up The Sun" don't just ride a riff into the ground, they twist it, stretch it, and hand it back to you sounding meaner than before. The vocals sit somewhere between a snarl and a sermon, and the rhythm section swings with a loose, live-in-the-room feel that a lot of modern doom has forgotten how to capture. It's heavy, sure, but it's also fun, and that's a rarer combination than it should be.
