SISTER · Disguised Vultures | CD

Jewel case CD.

Background information about 'Disguised Vultures'

There is a certain kind of racket that only comes out of Sweden, and Sister have been brewing it since their earliest demos — a filthy, glam-tinged death 'n' roll that smells like spilled beer, cheap leather and a blown-out backline. On "Disguised Vultures" the quartet doubles down on everything that made their debut such a nasty little treat, but sharpens the blades. The production is raw without being sloppy, the guitars buzz like a swarm of angry hornets, and the gang-shouted choruses land with the force of a boot to the teeth. It is the sound of a band who grew up on punk matinees and sleaze-metal matinees alike and refuse to choose between them.

What makes this record tick is its restlessness. One minute they are sprinting through a two-and-a-half-minute firecracker, the next they stretch out into a slow, swaggering crawl that lets the riffs breathe and the sleaze drip. The vocals sit somewhere between a snarl and a sneer, always on the edge of falling apart but never quite doing so — and that tension is exactly the point. There is humour here, too, the black kind, the kind you share with your worst friends at 3 a.m. outside a club that has already closed. It is loud, it is rude, it is ridiculously catchy, and it never once pretends to be anything other than what it is.
